Sexual Problems

Most people experience sexual problems at some point in their lives. Online sex therapy can be used effectively to treat all of the common issues listed below.

Women

  • Pain during intercourse (sometimes called dyspareunia)
  • Difficulty having intercourse (often due to a condition called vaginismus)
  • Difficulty reaching orgasm (known as anorgasmia)

Men

  • Difficulty in achieving or maintaining an erection (erectile dysfunction or ED, sometimes called impotence)
  • Ejaculating too quickly (premature ejaculation, PE or rapid ejaculation)
  • Difficulty reaching orgasm (known as delayed or retarded ejaculation)

Men or women

There are also many sexual difficulties that can affect men or women. These include:

  • Difficulties arising from past sexual abuse
  • Lack of enjoyment or desire
  • Sex addiction
  • Concerns about use of pornography
  • Concerns about particular sexual activities or fantasies
  • Difficulties associated with illness or disability
  • Concerns associated with ageing or the menopause

Couples

All of these sexual problems will of course have an impact on the couple relationship. Other sexual difficulties that can arise within couples include:

  • Differences in expectations about sex
  • Lack of desire or different levels of desire
  • Damage to a relationship because of an affair
  • Disappointment in a sexual relationship

It is often helpful for both partners in a relationship to participate in online therapy, even when the sexual problems seem to be mainly associated with one person.

Whatever the main issue, it is almost always helpful to incorporate elements of relationship counselling as well as sex therapy into the process.
